No, not an issue with the PHP - I was responding to "AJAX not being cross site is annoying"
MaxMouse
Really? i thought that would only be important if the user had some kind of control over where the XML came from, if you hard code it (As in a PHP file) wouldn't that eliminate XSS attacks?
Domuk
Yes, but very, very necessary. AJAX requests run in the context of the browser, there'd be no security if it was cross-domain .
MaxMouse
AJAX not being cross site is annoying, all other scripts can be used in that way, having to resort to PHP to patch it is a shame.

Miscellaneous: Introduction to the Windows Scripting Host
by: TroPe - 2004-12-21 19:10:14
Buh-Bye batch files. There's a new kid on the block. Well, not new, but new to you if you are not familiar with it - The Windows Script Host.

Today we'll be learning how to perform file handling, amongst other things, using the Windows Script Host/VBScript to automate the task of backing up files. We'll also learn how to launch your favorite burner and automate the task of recording a cd if you want.

I'll go into detail on the methods and properties of the FileSystemObject as well as discuss the WSH File and Folder objects and some of their methods.

When you are finished, you will be able to write a fully automated backup script and perform some useful Admin tasks.

Miscellaneous: FireFox 0.9.1 - A look at extensions
by: cyben - 2004-07-08 23:33:46
Right. So you like firefox. I suggest right now that, if you have not already done so, you upgrade to the newest version. Don't worry, it won't kill all your bookmarks or anything. All is OK. It will, however, kill your extensions. But that's OK, as now, the extensions are better and more complete, not to mention more stable. Here, I'll list the extensions I have chosen (after going through all of them), and explain why.

Operation Fastlink has become the biggest anti-piracy storm in history with over 120 coordinated raids conducted by law enforcement agencies from more than 10 countries. . .

Miscellaneous: Sending attatchments via SMTP
by: cyben - 2004-03-22 20:23:01
Well, virtually everyone knows how to send an email via SMTP, the practical upshot of which is that it can be forged. But few people know how to send attatchments. The uses of this are quite vast:
"Yeah I'll send it to you, but I'll be damned if you get my email adress"
"But Miss, I sent you my project two weeks ago. Are you sure you havn't got it?"

Well plain-text is all good and fine, but for some perverse reason, people seem to respect Microsoft Word Documents more (Yeah, I know! St00pId, but try sending your teacher a project in .txt...)

Naturally this guide covers sending messages through CLOSED RELAYS, as messages from open relays really suck and are generally automatically stuffed into a junkmail folder.

Miscellaneous: Playing around with the Quake 3 Arena source code
by: ReKleSS - 2004-02-21 23:41:26
Like almost all of id Software's games, a SDK was released along with Quake 3. The SDK contains everything (including a compiler, but not an editor) that you need to start writing a mod for the game.
Note: To be able to try this out, you'll need a full version of the game. The demo doesn't allow you to run mods. You'll also need a working knowledge of C.

So, you've just downloaded a large pile of source, say WineX, or the Linux kernel, run ./configure, and now make depend && make. It starts compiling. And keeps compiling. And continues compiling. As anyone who has tried to build something big knows, this can take a while, especially on slow processors. Heck, even on a pentium 4 2ghz, Advanced Strategic Command (www.asc-hq.org) takes around half an hour to compile. So, what to do while you wait?
