It could not be simpler to add email functionality to your vb.net application, including support for attachments.Heres how ...

Simply add this static method into your application

Public Shared Sub SendMail(strFrom as String, strTo as String, strCC as String,
  strSubject as String, strBody as String, strAttachments as String, strSMTPServer as String)

  'send the email
  Try
    Dim insMail As New MailMessage()
    With insMail
      .From = strFrom
      .To = strTo
      .Subject = strSubject
      .Body = strBody
      .Cc = strCC
      If Not strAttachments.Equals(String.Empty) Then
        Dim strFile As String
        Dim strAttach() As String = strAttachments.Split(";")
        For Each strFile In strAttach
          .Attachments.Add(New MailAttachment(strFile.Trim()))
        Next
      End If
    End With

    If Not strSMTPServer.Equals(String.Empty) Then
      SmtpMail.SmtpServer = strSMTPServer
    End If

    SmtpMail.Send(insMail)

  Catch e As Exception
      Console.WriteLine(e.Message)
  End Try

End Sub

SmtpMail is not defined. Where is it coming from?

You probably dont have the runtime libraries properly installed. and are you sure you selected the required components?

I just love how nobody ever includes the required imports for their code...

Error 1 Value of type 'String' cannot be converted to 'System.Net.Mail.MailAddress'.
Error 2 Property 'To' is 'ReadOnly'.
Error 3 Property 'CC' is 'ReadOnly'.
Error 4 Type 'MailAttachment' is not defined.
Error 5 Name 'SmtpMail' is not declared.
Error 6 Name 'SmtpMail' is not declared.

1. declare a mailAddress obj to wrap your from address;
2. The .To property is a collection of MailAddress object. You can use To.Add("to Address");
3. Same as 2.
4. I don't know;
5. SmtpMail should be an SmtpClient object;

The code works, but you need to add the System.Web Dll in your project references from C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\System.Web.dll.

Stop being a little bitch and figure out how to do something on your own, you asshole.

It is fuckheads like you that ruin good things for others. Honestly, why would you tell someone that posts something for free that it is rubbish and they should only post items that work specifically with what you want? What an asshat... I certainly hope you are not capable of breeding. The world would likely not be able to support the amount of teh stoopid that you and an offspring would be capable of generating.

'Obtain the Network Credentials from the mailSettings section

email.Subject = StrMailSubj
email.IsBodyHtml = True
email.DeliveryNotificationOptions = DeliveryNotificationOptions.OnFailure

email.Body = StrMailBody
email.Sender = New MailAddress(StrMailfrom)
'Send email
Try
client.Send(email)
Catch e As Exception
MsgBox(e.Message)

Call SendMail("mySender@gmx.com", "myReciever@googlemail.com", "Test", "This is a test", False)
End Sub

I cannot get the mail to send, i get the following error message:

Private Sub btnSend_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSend.Click
Dim ESen As New Net.Mail.MailAddress("xxx@gmail.com", "anymous")

Dim stream As New Net.Mail.SmtpClient("smtp.gmail.com", 465)
Dim Credentials As New System.Net.NetworkCredential("xxx@gmail.com", "password") 'Username, Password

stream.Credentials = Credentials
stream.UseDefaultCredentials = True
stream.Timeout = 100000
Try
Dim message As New Net.Mail.MailMessage(ESen, ERec)
message.Body = "This is message body"
message.Priority = MailPriority.High
message.Sender = ESen

stream.Send(message)
message.Dispose()
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message, MsgBoxStyle.Critical)

It all shows what we are all capable of saying great things about each other when are a angry !

This is one of the most confusing post I had throughly enjoyed reading in the net. It also says clearly how humans should be breeding etc..

The whole talk seems to be on the organs below the waist..

Well, it is just one more place in this weird cyber space !

Great site guys !

I am sure you will all agree with my 'great' comments. It is quite relaxing to say things like this.

Thanks very much.

Great code. Just hard coded a couple of items to test and it all worked. Very simple.
You do have to find out the address of your mail server (I.E mail.yahoey.com), the port they use for outgoing mail (default is 25) and you will have to know your user id and password for for your e-mail account.

Here is the code. (hope is doesn't wrap too bad.)

Dim mFrom, mTo As String
mFrom = "test@server.com"

mySmtpClient.UseDefaultCredentials = True

Dim emailAdr As String
Dim passwrd As String

emailAdr = "sender@server.com"
passwrd = "senderPassword"

mySmtpClient.Credentials = New NetworkCredential(emailAdr, passwrd)
